Well, it seems that Toshiba announced a fews hours ago that they will be dropping their next-gen DVD format, HD-DVD, which has been taking a brutal beating by Sony’s rival format (Blu-Ray). If people thought that Wal-Mart’s backing of the Blu-Ray format was bad news for HD-DVD, then this can be considered the death blow.
In addition to dropping HD-DVD, there is word flying around that Toshiba will try their hand at making their own Blu-Ray player. This is just talk right now, but I’m always listening.
