The Xbox 360 patch for Call of Duty 4 passed certification by the weekend, and started hitting consoles near you this morning. For those of you wondering what’s been changed, a full list of the newness is:
New Kill Cams - Everything that can kill you has a Kill Cam now. Grenades, Airstrikes, Claymores, C4, M203 Rounds, RPGs, anything. So jump online, get owned alittle and check them out. They’re awesome, especially Grenades and M203 shots that go across the map and through a window.
Host Migration - Host migration was added, so now when the host leaves you won’t get dropped back to your own lobby by yourself. Everyone will stay together. Host Leaves, everyone returns to lobby, selects next best host, and the game starts up again. No more re-inviting, re-partying up because a host ended the game.
Improved Sniper Accuracy - The Sniper rifle accuracy has been improved. No more, WTF? shots now. Your cross hair will be a better representation of where your shot will ultimately land. Try out a sniper class today, let us know how the new accuracy feels.
Improved ACOG Scope Accuracy - ACOG scopes accuracy on any weapon has been improved. Test it out, throw it on one of your classes and give it a go.
Upgraded Spectator Cam - Now when you’re a spectator you have the option to follow in 3rd person or 1st person. As well as rotate 360 degrees around the player you’re watching. Next time you’re dead in Search and Destroy and just watching your team mates do stuff you know you can do better, now do it in 1st person or rotate around them.
Quick Mute Option - Now you can easily and quickly mute players in-game or in-lobby without ever going through the Xbox Live blades. Just go to their gamertag on screen and hit ‘A’ to quick mute in lobby, or via the in-game scoreboard if playing. Quick. Easy. Salvation!
In addition to these feature additions there will also be:
Improved Network Performance For Larger Games - 18 player games now require more bandwidth to host, resulting in smoother performance for players.
Optimized Server Selection for First Match - Server selection is now optimized to select best bandwidth servers associated by LSP.
Fixed “Playlist Older Than Host” Error - Player will no longer get this error when entering games.
Additional Start Spawn Locations in All Maps - Added a minimum of 9 extra start spawns on each side of all maps.
Jump online, test out the new kill cams and features, and as always let me know what you think. We’re also going to be playing around with new playlists in the near future so I’ll keep you updated on those changes as they come.
Reuters reported that MKR Group had filed suit against Capcom for the use of “zombies attacking a mall” storyline in Dead Rising which was the central theme in George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. While the Capcom injunction claimed, “humans battling zombies in a shopping mall” is a “wholly unprotectible [sic] idea,” the filing from MKR Group disputed the claim and called the scenario and execution too similar saying, “In both, the recreational activities of the zombies and absurdly grotesque ‘kill scenes’ provide unexpected comedic relief.” You might think that MKR Group is a little late to the party on filing this suit nearly two years after the release of Dead Rising.
According to a blog post by the Infinity Ward Community Manager, Robert Bowling, the feature patch for COD4 didn’t run into any problems in it’s encounter with the Microsoft certification demons. He reports that if we’re all lucky (and if he gets some work done) the new feature update could go live before the weekend. However like an experienced community manager, he add the caveat that things are never set, and that by no means is the patch “guaranteed” to be online before week’s end.
Other than that news, the post contains some talk on COD4’s DLC, which is promised to have some “special treat for loyal COD4 players.” What that means is anyone’s guess at the moment, but Robert also promises that we’ll be seeing some screens and a video clip of the new DLC soon.
IGN had a chance to sit down and chat with Casey Hudson, Project Director for Mass Effect about the game’s upcoming Bring Down the Sky DLC. And in the process, we get learned! We learn that Bring Down the Sky (which is scheduled for release March 10th) is focused on furthing the Mass Effect storyline by introducing The Batarian race as well as learning more about how they’ve impacted the lives of those around you. Also, we should mention that the DLC can be played by any Mass Effect owner as long the player is on or has access to the Normandy. Because that’s where the mission starts off. Make the jump to read IGN’s complete Bring Down the Sky interview in all its interview glory and learn a bit more of what’s to come this March.

Entertainment software giant Electronic Arts announced today that it is seeking to merge with GTA publisher Take Two Interactive in what would be a two billion dollar deal. But Take Two is playing hard-to-get.
An EA press release claims that it offered $26 per share for Take Two stock in a February 19th letter from EA CEO John Riccitiello to T2 boss Strauss Zelnick . After Take Two management rejected EA’s offer, Riccitiello decided to appeal directly to T2 shareholders. The $26 offering price represents a better than 60% premium over recent T2 share prices.
Said Riccitiello:
Our all-cash proposal is a unique opportunity for Take-Two shareholders to realize immediate value at a substantial premium, while creating long-term value for EA shareholders. Take-Two’s game designers would also benefit from EA’s financial resources, stable, game-focused management team, and strong global publishing capabilities.
But EA’s cash-laden offer also came with a warning:
There can be no certainty that in the future EA or any other buyer would pay the same high premium we are offering today.

Our whining, groaning and petitioning seems to have actually paid off for once as the once rumored, then not rumored Xbox Live Arcade version of GoldenEye 007 is officially going to happen.
British magazine Xbox World 360 broke the news and is teasing that in next month’s issue (which hits newsstands next Wednesday the 27th) they’ll be revealing “never-seen shots and hands-on details” from “Rare’s retooled classic” and all the changes that have been implemented in this re-make.
